The 18-year-old, who holds a UK passport, has been offered a one-year pro deal by Wrexham.

Wrexham beat off other English clubs to sign Sam Hocking

Hocking is now set to sign professional terms with Wrexham, following a successful trial period with the Welsh club.

The Australian had his first taste of English football at the end of 2024, having trials with a number of sides in the EFL.

Hocking spent time with Middlesbrough, Blackpool, Wigan, Fleetwood, Preston and Stockport, before returning to the southern hemisphere.

Now though, the keeper has landed a full-time contract with Wrexham and will hope to work his way through the ranks at the club.

Wrexham eye Championship survival

After three consecutive promotions up from the National League to the Championship, this season was always likely to be a test for Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson’s side sit 18th in the table, just four points clear of the relegation zone, nine games into the season.

On Friday (3 October), Wrexham drew 1-1 with Birmingham City, a side that beat them to the League One title last season.

There has been talk around the future of Parkinson at the Racecourse Ground, after a difficult start to the new campaign, but their recent draws with Birmingham and Leicester City should help ease the pressure.

After the international break, Wrexham will hope to improve on their two wins so far this season and steer themselves clear of the drop zone.
