Exclusive: Wrexham submitting Sammie Szmodics offer, Ipswich asking price revealed

Wrexham are offering £5million for Ipswich Town forward Sammie Szmodics, sources have told Football Insider.

Derby County have already had a bid rejected by Ipswich for the 30-year-old attacking midfielder, and Wrexham are working on beating the Rams to the capture of the proven Championship star.

Sources say that Ipswich are holding out for a fee of around £6m for Szmodics, who signed a four-year deal when he joined from Blackburn Rovers in 2024.

Szmodics has suffered from extensive injury issues in the last year and missed much of the second half of last season as the Tractor Boys were relegated from the Premier League.

Ipswich have been backed to get promoted back up from the Championship this season, with Kieran McKenna‘s side in a strong position.

Sammie Szmodics in need of fresh start

Just 18 months ago, Szmodics was opening the scoring at the Etihad Stadium in Ipswich’s second Premier League game of the season.

The Tractor Boys paid around £9m for the forward, who had netted 33 goals across all competitions for Blackburn in the previous campaign.

While injury would mar much of Szmodics’ Premier League season, the 30-year-old could claim to have found the net against both Man City and Tottenham, scoring four goals in the 20 games he featured in.

The forward was starting for McKenna’s side for the start of the Championship season, too, but injury has struck again, with 11 league games missed already.

He has since returned, and scored against his former club Blackburn in a 3-0 win earlier this month.

But competition and absences have left a sense that Szmodics could do with a fresh start, and Wrexham appear to be offering exactly that opportunity.

Wrexham ambition continues to grow

The footballing world was stunned when news broke last week that Wrexham had submitted a record £19m bid to sign Angers striker Sidiki Cherif.

The Championship club are looking to compete with Crystal Palace for the teenager’s signature, with negotiations thought to be ongoing.

The massive bid is yet another example of the ambition that exists under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

And the move for Szmodics is much of the same, with the forward still an extremely highly rated Championship forward.
