Darren Bent has insisted England star Kieran Trippier would be a “brilliant signing” for Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Villa forward said that Trippier is “better than what they’ve got at Aston Villa”.
The Telegraph claim Villa boss Dean Smith wants to bring in the Atlético Madrid man either on loan or a permanent deal.
Trippier, is expected to challenge both Frederic Guilbert and Ahmed Elmohamady who both struggled last season.
The England international made the switch to the Spanish capital last summer after spending four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur.
Asked by Football Insider whether he could see Trippier moving to Villa Park, Bent said: “I’m all for that. That would be a brilliant signing for Villa, they need a bit of that.
“They need a bit of experience in there and I think he is top drawer.
“He’s an England international, he’s played in the Champions League final so he’s played at the highest level.
“For me, that would be brilliant, I think he’s better than what they’ve got at Aston Villa.”
Trippier played 33 times for Atlético Madrid across all competitions last season after suffering with a groin injury at the beginning of the campaign.
He helped Diego Simeone’s side finish third in La Liga and reach the quarter finals of the Champions League.
The 29-year-old played 114 times in all competitions for Tottenham Hotspur including the full 90 minutes in the Champions League final loss to Liverpool in 2019.
After making his international debut in June 2017, Trippier has amassed 19 caps for England.
