Expert ‘alarmed’ by Hugo Loris footage as Tottenham stance revealed
Paul Robinson is “alarmed” by Hugo Lloris’ form for Tottenham this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 36-year-old is “keeping goal too safe” and is not affecting games.
As shown on Sky Sports (1 January), Lloris made a big error moments before Emiliano Buendia opened the scoring for Aston Villa on Sunday.
Buendia’s goal proved decisive with Villa eventual 2-0 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
According to the Express (3 January), Lloris has been assured of his role within the team by Antonio Conte.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “I want to back him but it looks to me as if he has kept goal too safe for too long.
“It looks as if he is playing not to make a mistake rather than to affect the game. He keeps goal in a safe way. He does not make many decisions to come off his line or take crosses. It looks like he is safeguarding himself.
“I still think he is a top-class goalkeeper. The ability isn’t in question. He has had an amazing career. You do not win the World Cup and play at the top of the Premier League for as long as he has without being a great player.

“I just want to see him be more involved. Look at [Emiliano] Martinez. He showed his character in the World Cup and affected the games. Hugo seems a bit reserved at the moment. He is just getting through matches.
“I do not think it is time to replace him but the mistake are becoming more frequent which is alarming.”
