Expert can’t believe VAR response to Kulusevski controversy at Tottenham
Dejan Kulusevski was “very lucky” to avoid a red card as Tottenham lost 1-0 to Brighton on Saturday.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
In the first half of Saturday’s game (16 April), Kulusevski, 21, flung an elbow at Marc Cucurella.
He was given a yellow card for his actions and VAR did not tell referee Craig Pawson to take another look at the incident.
Wenham hopes to never see that side of Kulusevski’s game again as a red card could have proved costly to Spurs’ hopes of finishing in the top four.
“You can’t raise your arm like that, you just can’t do it,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He was very, very lucky, especially in the world of VAR. I find it bizarre that VAR didn’t look.
“It’s the intention of the challenge. I think he was very lucky to stay on the pitch.
“It would have been a daft sending off from him so hopefully we don’t see that side of him again.”

Tottenham did not lose their place in the top four after Arsenal failed to take advantage, losing 1-0 to Southampton later in the day.
Tottenham are next in action against Brentford on Saturday (23 April) with top-four rivals Arsenal and Man United playing each other earlier that day.
In other news, Kevin Campbell has named the three Tottenham players who will clinch their top-four finish ahead of Arsenal.
