Expert can’t believe what he’s seen about Dean Henderson’s possible Newcastle United transfer
Newcastle United should not pay £40million to sign Dean Henderson from Man United.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the goalkeeper he has “watched a lot of”.
According to the Manchester Evening News (17 May), Newcastle are considering a move for Henderson as they look to enhance their squad ahead of next season – with the former Sheffield United loan star reportedly “desperate” to exit Man United.

The stopper made just three appearances all season and failed to take part in the 2021-22 Premier League.
It is for this reason Kenny claims Newcastle should not pay a big fee for Henderson this summer.
“He had two amazing seasons at Sheffield United where I watched a lot of him,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He was unfortunate to go back to Man United and have the luck that he has had.
“De Gea has been unbelievable and then Henderson had COVID which doesn’t help.
“The fee I have seen batted about for Henderson is £40million and that is a lot for a player who hasn’t really played this season.
“But he comes with the English tax, doesn’t he? Also, you are paying for the potential so it depends on what they want to do.
“Is the goalkeeper position an area Newcastle really need to strengthen? I think they want to do that everywhere but I wouldn’t be paying £40million.
“I’m really not sure about that to be honest.”

Henderson spent the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons on loan at Sheffield United.
He made 86 appearances for the club.
