Expert claims Man City set to interfere in ‘£45m’ Tottenham plan to sign Pedro Porro
Man City will interfere if Tottenham try to sign Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon in January.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Portuguese outlet CM Journal (23 December) claims Tottenham are ‘determined’ to sign the former Manchester City man and the report also claims they have devised a plan to enhance their position in negotiations with Sporting.
This plan would involve scrapping the 50% sell-on clause in Marcus Edwards’ Sporting contract in return for a discount on Porro’s eventual fee.
Porro, 23, only signed for the Portuguese giants in the summer after spending the previous two years on loan at the club from City.
Wenham claims Man City will interfere if Tottenham make a move for Porro.
“I have seen again reports linking us with Pedro Porro over at Sporting,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It always seems forgotten that Man City have a £20million buy-back clause. So they are not going to sit there and watch us give Sporting £45million. It doesn’t work like that.
“They would be likely to buy him back and then I don’t know what the rules are on players playing for three separate clubs in the same season.
“City would sign him and then loan him to us with the obligation to buy. That could be one way to get around that rule.
“That’s one to look out for if we are interested in this player.”

Porro has made 20 total appearances for Sporting this season.
He has scored once and registered nine assists.
