Expert defends Yves Bissouma from Tottenham fans after ‘toxic’ development
Yves Bissouma did not deserve to be booed off as Tottenham lost to Aston Villa.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Bissouma, 26, has only started eight Premier League games this season following his move from Brighton in the summer.
As per TalkSPORT, the Mali international was booed off the pitch when substituted during Spurs’ 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on New Year’s Day.
He was withdrawn with 10 minutes to play as Spurs struggled to find a way back into the game.
Wenham admits Bssouma did not deserve to be booed off the pitch.
“If I’m being brutally honest, I thought that was a little bit harsh,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He doesn’t need that. I thought he was just ok. He was no worse than some of the other players and if someone else had come off then maybe they would have been on the receiving end of the fans’ frustration.
“It’s easy to point the finger at him because he is a new signing and he hasn’t performed in a Tottenham shirt to the same level that other players in the team have done in the past.
“I don’t think he was worse than anyone else really and you don’t like to see your own players booed.
“It’s not what we are about but it was an afternoon where things turned toxic, unfortunately.”

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur have been Antonio Conte’s midfield of choice this season.
Spurs return to league action against Arsenal on 14 January.
