Expert ‘delighted’ by update on Ciaran Clark’s Newcastle United future as talks underway
Newcastle United outcast Ciaran Clark’s potential move to Sheffield United makes sense for all parties.
That’s according to ex-Blades stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s transfer business.
On Sunday (10 July), The Telegraph‘s Mike McGrath reported Clark is nearing a season-long loan move to Sheffield United.

If this deal is agreed, it would effectively end the 32-year-old’s Newcastle career as he is out of contract in the summer of 2023.
The former Republic of Ireland international was dropped from the Magpies’ Premier League squad for the second half of the 2021-22 campaign with his last outing coming on 22 January.
Lifelong Sheffield United fan Kenny is delighted with Clark’s potential arrival.
“It’s a great signing for Sheffield United, delighted,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It’s a good move for Clark, obviously he wants to play some football. The problem is he hasn’t been involved at Newcastle over the last few months of the season.
“It’s a great move for him, the club are looking to be on the up next season. He has played for the Republic of Ireland on numerous occasions, he has a lot of experience under his belt.
“He knows the Championship and I think it will be a good signing for us. It’s a positive move ahead of what will be an important season.
“It makes sense for Newcastle as well, they need to get players off the wage bill.”

Clark has made 129 appearances for the Magpies.
He joined the club from Aston Villa in the summer of 2016.
