Expert fears Tottenham will fall behind rivals after ‘very worrying’ update
Tottenham are falling behind the rest of the top six after an update on the club’s January transfer plans.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
On Tuesday (20 December), The Athletic released a report stating sources close to key figures in the negotiations of Antonio Conte’s new contract sound less optimistic than they did earlier in the season about a deal being reached.

Later in the piece, Spurs’ transfer plans were discussed as it was claimed that the club must sell before they can buy in January.
Wenham has been left stunned by this revelation.
“There was a really worrying report in the Conte piece from the Athletic that claimed Tottenham are not going to spend in January,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Now, without knowing exactly what we spent in the summer, there should be a chunk of that £150million left.
“We need to strengthen and injuries have not been kind to us this season so I am surprised to be hearing yet again that we won’t be spending.
“The report said that we would need to sell before we can buy. You don’t see that from other top clubs. You are talking about us moving on players who don’t play to help bring in someone who will.
“I just find it surprising that there still seems to be an inability to just go out and spend when you see the rest of the top six and other clubs like Newcastle doing just that.“

Tottenham made seven senior signings in the summer of 2022.
Destiny Udogie also joined the club but was loaned straight back to Udinese.
In other news, one pundit claims a January signing could spell the end for one £25m Tottenham star – “there’s a lot of talk”.
