Expert: Gianluca Scamacca ‘letting his manager down’ amid ‘terrible’ West Ham development

Gianluca Scamacca’s poor form for West Ham is to blame for the club’s poor form this season.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Scamacca’s recent performances.

The nine-time Italy international only signed for West Ham in July – with the Irons paying Sassuolo a reported £35.5million for his signature.

Scamacca has experienced a difficult start to life at West Ham only scoring three goals in 15 Premier League outings, 11 of which have been starts.

His goal last time out against Leeds (4 January), ended a run of seven games without a goal in the league.

McManus claims Scamacca’s form is a major reason why the Hammers are struggling this season.

“Moyes is getting all the blame and ultimately it will be him who pays the price,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“But you have to look at players like Scamacca, he can’t buy a goal at the moment. How much did he cost?

“It was a lot of money and West Ham don’t usually spend big on transfers. If you spend that kind of money on a striker you need returns.

“You need to be getting towards 20 goals and he has, what, three? It’s terrible, not good enough and he’s letting his manager down.

“Moyes can’t control what he does on the pitch, Scamacca is missing so many chances. That’s not Moyes fault but he’ll pay the price.”
