Expert issues critical Jordan Henderson update amid Liverpool rest results

Jordan Henderson should clear the concussion protocol in time for Liverpool against Wolves on Saturday evening, but Jurgen Klopp might take extra caution with the midfielder.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Henderson was absent from Liverpool’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Monday evening, with the Reds captain sustaining a concussion in the build-up to the Premier League clash.

Klopp told Liverpool’s official website on Monday (2 January) that the club ran tests on the 32-year-old the day after he sustained the injury and the results returned “not 100 per cent”, ruling him out of the trip to the G-Tech Stadium.

Liverpool will look to bounce back from their defeat on Saturday in their FA Cup clash against Wolves, but Henderson’s inclusion in the squad is still up in the air.

Dinnery believes Klopp may take extra caution with his captain and choose to instead field a rotated side against Julen Lopetegui’s side.

The concussion protocols suggest that as long as he goes through those daily evaluations without any negative reaction then there’s no reason he can’t be integrated and return on day six of his assessment.

Liverpool

That’d clear him for the FA Cup clash against Wolves, but Klopp might look at Henderson and take extra caution and opt to play some players on the fringe of the first team.

Barring any issues being flagged, provided he goes through the protocol then there shouldn’t be any issues when it comes to his resumption in the Premier League.
