Expert issues 'huge' Man City verdict after source's Kalvin Phillips reveal - 'it's a bargain'

Paul Robinson is adamant Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips would be “a huge success” at Man City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds and England number one claimed £50million would be a “bargain” price for the 26-year-old.

Man City are in the market for a centre-midfielder this summer following the departure of Fernandinho.

A City source told Football Insider (13 June) that the club have submitted a bid for Kalvin Phillips.

A fee of around £50million could be enough to seal a deal for the England international, who has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on Phillips potentially moving to the Etihad, Robinson said: “I think he’d be a huge success at City.

“He was England’s player of the year last year. He has proved that he can play with better quality players.

“City would’t be interested in him if there was any doubt about his capabilities at that level. He is an established international. He’s been Gareth Southgate’s first name on the team sheet at times.

“His last England display was poor but that is not the real Kalvin Phillips.

“Perhaps he won’t start every week at Man City with Rodri there. Rodri performs week in, week out.

“It is a squad game now more than ever though. City compete on all fronts. Phillips would be guaranteed 25 starts at City. He could step up and do it.

“If they can get him from Leeds for £50million it’s a bargain for them in all honesty.”
