Expert: Leeds United ‘red flag’ as Adam Forshaw twist leaves staff ‘confused’

Leeds United are struggling to identify the underlying cause of Adam Forshaw’s injury concerns at Elland Road after his latest setback.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Forshaw failed to make a league appearance for Leeds in January after struggling with a hip injury in recent weeks.

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch revealed last Saturday (21 January) that Forshaw has “had a lot of visits to the doctor to try and identify exactly what’s happening” with his latest setback.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been able to make five Premier League appearances for the Whites in 2022/23 but he has not completed a full 90 minutes all season.

Dinnery has raised concern over Forshaw’s latest setback, with Marsch’s comments suggesting the club can’t pinpoint what has gone wrong.

It’s a very difficult situation for Leeds and Forshaw,” Dinnery told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

The surgery that he had back in 2019 kept him on the sidelines for the best part of 18 months and it was highly disappointing.

He’s had his fair share of injuries since that problem too and whenever he seems to be able to establish himself in that starting lineup he picks up an injury.

His latest issue was described as a minor surgical procedure, a bit of a tidy-up to help manage the pain.

But he hasn’t responded well to that at all which is a big red flag for Leeds.

The concern comes from not being able to identify the underlying cause – Leeds can’t address the issue if medical staff are confused about what is causing it.
