Expert: Man United face three weeks without Jadon Sancho amid ‘behind-closed-doors’ claim

Jadon Sancho requires another three weeks on the training ground to get back up to full fitness before Man United can expect to see him regularly.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Sancho’s last Premier League minutes for Man United came in late October when the 22-year-old winger played 52 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

Man United, Jadon Sancho

Since then, Sancho has fallen ill, missed out on the England call-up to the Qatar World Cup and been sent to train alone by Erik ten Hag due to disciplinary issues.

However, The Athletic reported on Tuesday (17 January) that Sancho had returned to first-team training at Carrington as he inches closer to making a Premier League return.

Dinnery believes Sancho will spend another few weeks on the training ground as well as partaking in behind-closed-doors games.

A lot of what happens in the next few weeks comes down to Jadon himself,” Dinnery told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

He needs to prove himself to Ten Hag and show that he’s prepared to knuckle down and go about his business.

And then he needs to get some minutes in behind-closed-doors games just to build up that fitness.

Ultimately then Ten Hag has a decision to make.

Man United

There is no doubt that Sancho has got the ability, but his application has been questioned at Man United.

Overall it’ll take two or three weeks before Sancho can get up to a good level of sharpness and fitness and push for a start.
