Expert on Eddie Howe potentially leaving Newcastle United as club chief speaks out
Newcastle United do not need to fear Eddie Howe leaving the club for another job.
That’s according to former Aston Villa and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 44-year-old’s future.
As quoted by The Mirror (13 October), Toon sporting director Dan Ashworth has claimed “It’s always difficult with managers because if he wins too many games he becomes attractive to, I don’t know, Real Madrid or Manchester City”.

On the eve of the 2022-23 season, Howe was given a new “long-term” contract by Newcastle though no exact length was announced.
The former Brighton boss has transformed Newcastle during his 11 months at the club, saving Newcastle from relegation and propelling them into the European spots.
Despite Howe’s success, McLeish insists Newcastle need not worry about their manager being poached.
“I think Eddie really likes being there,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“From what you hear in interviews it seems like he has really bought into the project and he is enjoying his time there.
“He has moved his family the length of the country, that’s some commitment. There is also the new contract but we don’t know how long that is.
“You talk about Man City and Real Madrid, I can’t see Guardiola or Ancelotti going anywhere any time soon. I think Howe could even turn those moves down if they did come.

“He is Newcastle at the moment.
“Everything that has happened has been down to him and I think he would like to see that through to the end.”
