Expert on Marcus Edwards rejoining Tottenham amid '£26m' claim - 'what I was told...'

Marcus Edwards has no interest in rejoining Tottenham after how the club treated him.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Edwards, 23, dazzled as Sporting Lisbon beat Tottenham 2-0 on Tuesday (13 September).

As per The Telegraph’s Matt Law (14 September), Tottenham could bank £26million if any club activates his £52million Sporting Lisbon release clause.

This has led to the suggestion that Spurs could sign Edwards for half the price.

However, Wenham claims Edwards has no interest in rejoining his former side.

“The number of people who have quote tweeted the Matt Law tweet, asking why Tottenham don’t buy Edwards and only pay half of the fee due to the 50% sell-on,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“As I understand it, when Marcus left Tottenham he felt very, very let down by the club. I do not see him wishing to return to Tottenham.

“Don’t get me wrong, Tottenham is a different place now. It’s a different manager and a lot of the academy staff have changed.

“I can see why people might think that things have changed now. The impression I got and what I was told is that he felt mismanaged by Tottenham and let down in the way.

“The club didn’t back him when there was something about his discipline being talked about by the then-Norwich manager Daniel Farke.

“I would be beyond surprised if he played for us again but you never know, this is football.

“Money talks and everything at Spurs has changed.”
