Expert raises ‘huge’ Roberto Firmino concern as Liverpool news confirmed

Liverpool have given up trying to put a timeframe on Roberto Firmino’s injury after his return date keeps getting pushed back.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

Firmino was last in action for the Reds in November, when he scored in a 3-1 win over Southampton.

Jurgen Klopp described the thigh injury as “not a big one” back on 22 December, but a month later the Brazilian forward is still nowhere to be seen in a matchday squad after missing out on the Premier League match against Chelsea.

Despite missing the last five games through injury, Firmino is still Liverpool’s top scorer in the league and the Reds could do with him back available after failing to win any of their last three.

Dinnery believes the lack of clarity around Firmino’s injury is a real concern for Liverpool, who have given up trying to put a timeline on his recovery.

It is a big concern for Liverpool and Klopp,” He told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

“The initial injury suffered by Firmino was considered to be fairly innocuous and minor.

“But what was initially deemed a 10-day recovery is now being extended to the point we don’t even have a time frame on a potential return.

“So there’s a huge worry with regard to the player himself and how the understanding of the injury has changed.

“It’s also unclear how careful Liverpool will have to be when he does return.”
