Expert shares 'brilliant' Celtic verdict after confirmed news - 'wow'

Celtic will be in a “brilliant” position if their start to the season goes according to plan.

That’s according to ex-Hoops hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s start to the season.

Celtic’s fixtures for the 2022-23 season were announced on Friday morning (17 June).

Ange Postecoglou’s side starts the season with a home clash against Aberdeen on 31 July.

The first Old Firm of the season will be played at Parkhead on 3 August.

McAvennie is delighted with the fixture list.

“That’s a good one, Aberdeen to start with,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We have to start at home because we have to raise the flag, I’m sure that’s the reason the Champions are always at home.

“It’s certainly nice to be reminded that we are champions and it gives the fans that feel-good factor heading into the new season.

“I was just looking at Rangers, wow, 3 September. At home as well, brilliant.

“If it all goes to plan it will be great. Win the first game then win the first Old Firm and that sets us up nicely.”

Celtic face their first trip to Ibrox on 2 January before welcoming their rivals back to Parkhead on 8 April.

The final scheduled game before the end of the season split is on 22 April against Motherwell, also at Parkhead.
