Expert shares 'devastating' Liam Cooper claim after Leeds United update

Another injury blow to Liam Cooper would be “devastating” for Leeds United.

That’s according to former Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update on the defender.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday (6 May), Jesse Marsch revealed he expects the Cooper, 30, to play on against Arsenal on Sunday (8 May)after taking part in training this week.

The defender missed the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City after picking up a knee issue in the warm up.

He has struggled with injuries this season and has only made 18 appearances in the Premier League as it stands.

McLeish is hoping Cooper is fit enough to play against the Gunners as his leadership is “vital” to the club’s chances of picking up a posistive result.

“They would miss him for sure,” McLeish told Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge.

“His leadership is absolutely vital, just the fact he’s on the pitch and going for it.

“He has been such a stalwart for that club. To lose him at this moment would be devastating.

“The quality of individuals is key to how that Leeds team works.”

Leeds face Chelsea after their trip to Arsenal but they could find themselves in the relegation zone by then.

If the Whites lose to the Gunners and Everton pick up three points against Leciester on SUnday (8 May) they wil drop into the relegation zone.
