Expert shares 'electric' Erling Haaland prediction as new Man City details emerge - 'wow'

Noel Whelan has suggested Man City new boy Erling Haaland will become even more effective in the coming weeks as his teammates get on his “wavelength”.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 22-year-old’s pace is “electric” – and predicted “some shootout” with fellow Premier League newcomer Darwin Nunez.

Haaland scored twice on his debut against West Ham on Sunday (7 August), with both goals originating from lightning-quick dashes in behind the Irons’ defence.

The former Dortmund hitman was constantly on the move while leading the line for City for the first time – but was seldom found by Pep Guardiola’s side.

Haaland had just 30 touches during Sunday’s clash – the least of any player who started the game for Man City (per FBRef).

Whelan suggested it will take time for Kevin De Bruyne and co. to fully adapt to having an out-and-out number nine at the Etihad Stadium again.

“It’s about being on the same wavelength,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“It’s the same with Nunez too. It will just take time to bed in and play with each other in competitive games, finding where they want the ball, and their strengths and weaknesses.

“The two times he did get the ball in behind, his pace was just electric. He just put on the afterburners.

“Once they get going and get on that wavelength with Haaland, wow.

“This is going to be some shootout with Darwin Nunez  – both for the Golden Boot and for the title.

“Maybe they’re not looking forward to playing them, but even the neutrals will be looking forward to seeing how the race pans out.”
