Expert shares insight on Marco Asensio after Tottenham transfer report – ‘I covered him for years’

Tottenham should think twice before signing Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 26-year-old would not be suited to Antonio Conte’s style of play.

Asensio has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Bernabeu.

According to Calciomercato (29 September), the attacking midfielder will not be renewing his deal with the La Liga giants.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs are all said to be keeping tabs on the Spain international.

When asked by Football Insider if Asensio is capable of making a big impact on the Premier League, Campbell, who previously worked for La Liga TV, said: “I have watched him many times.

“I covered Real Madrid for a number of years. Asensio is a very, very good player.

“Technically he is brilliant. He can score from 40 yards out. He has an unbelievable strike on him.

“Would the Premier League be too physical for him? I’m not sure. It would be a risk for whoever signs him.

“I think he would have to go to the right club to be a success. The way Spurs play, I do not think it would be a good fit. I don’t think it would suit him.

“He would be better off in a team that play possession football, like Real Madrid. Asensio is not blessed with blistering pace.”
