Expert shares ‘massive’ Jarrod Bowen claim after what he’s seen at West Ham

Noel Whelan has hailed Jarrod Bowen for “getting West Ham up and running” with his performances after a challenging start to the season.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old will be back in the mind of England boss Gareth Southgate after his recent displays.

Bowen had scored three in four games prior to Saturday’s (15 October) 1-1 draw away at Southampton.

His strikes have helped lift West Ham out of the relegation zone and into 12th place in the Premier League – three points clear of danger.

Bowen notched 18 goals and 13 assists for the Irons last term to earn the admiration of Southgate and his first England caps.

Whelan suggested that “confidence now looks to be oozing” through David Moyes’ front line – which includes big-money signing Gianluca Scamacca.

When asked if Bowen’s form is the driving force behind West Ham’s turnaround, he told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “It is.

“He needed to get these goals and reach the heights he did last season – and now he’s truly kick-started his season.

“These past four games have been the real start of the season for West Ham, and that is because you’ve got players like Bowen hitting form at the right time.

“It’s the right time for country as well. I’m sure Gareth Southgate will be pleased to see him back in form and putting in these crucial performances.

“He’s a massive player for West Ham, and someone who can both score and create. He’s a very dangerous player and he’s got West Ham up and running.

“The confidence now looks to be oozing through that front line. We’re quick to jump on players like Bowen when they come off the boil, but every player goes through these dips in form.

“He’s found his feet again at exactly the right time.”
