Expert suggests real reason Aston Villa didn't sign Ismaila Sarr - 'he's had some troubles...'
Aston Villa may have passed on signing Ismaila Sarr due to injury concerns.
That’s according to former Villains boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former sides’ failure to capture Sarr.
On Monday (22 August), Football Insider revealed that the deal for the 24-year-old had collapsed due to a failure to agree personal terms and Gerrard having second thoughts.
The Senegal international had completed his medical ahead of a move to Villa Park.
Watford accepted a £27million offer for the forward but he could not agree personal terms with the Villans and Gerrard is said to have had second thoughts on signing the player after they failed to reach an agreement.
McLeish suggested there may have also been some concerning results after Sarr’s medical.

“I think he’s a good player, I really do,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“When you talk about medicals and failed medicals, I think he has had some troubles with his hamstring, one of those ongoing injuries.
“Maybe there is a wee flaw somewhere and that has contributed. I really do think he is a good player, he has a bit of pace and a bit of everything about him.
“It could be that wee niggly injury thing that has made Villa step back as well as anything else.”
Aston Villa lost 3-1 to Crystal Palace on Saturday (20 August), meaning Gerrard’s side have only won three of their last 14 games going back to the end of last season.
They are next in action against West Ham on Sunday (28 August).
