Expert: This is how Rangers will spend Calvin Bassey money
Alan Hutton suspects Rangers will use the money generated from the sale of Calvin Bassey in a variety of ways.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Gers defender said the Ibrox club will try to use the money wisely to uncover “hidden gems”.
On 20 July, Rangers confirmed Bassey, 22, had joined Dutch side Ajax for a club record fee.
According to Sky Sports (20 July), the two clubs agreed on a £22.7million deal.
The Nigeria international put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Ajax.
When asked if Van Bronckhorst would be allowed to spend all the money from the transfer to sign new players, Hutton told Football Insider:
“I can’t see them spending it all, obviously a lot of it will go back into the club for different things.
“The manager will obviously be hoping for transfers but they’ll try to use it wisely. I
“If you look at some of the signings Rangers have made in the past, the likes of [Joe] Aribo, Bassey, they’ve found these hidden gems for compensation money but then gone on to sell them for big fees.
“I think that’s probably the route they’ll go down. Ben Davies seems like a good bit of business so I think they’ll stick to that trend.“

Bassey made 50 appearances for Rangers across all competitions last season, including 14 appearances in their Europa League campaign.
In those outings he provided six assists.
