Expert: This may be real reason behind Karamoko Dembele’s exit from Celtic
Frank McAvennie has claimed Ange Postecoglou had to create space at Celtic by offloading Karamoko Dembele.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker backed the 19-year-old’s decision to move to France.
On Tuesday (5 July), Stade Brestois confirmed the signing of Dembele from the Bhoys.
The winger left the Parkhead club on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract.
McAvennie suggested it will be good for Dembele to move on from the Scottish Champions.
“I think what the manager’s got to do is create space.” he told Football Insider.
“There is an awful lot of midfield players, we’re stacked up, it’s tremendous how many midfield players we’ve got now. Now that they’ve signed Jota, they’ve got the right player.
“Dembele’s not going to get a game. [David] Turnbull coming back from injury, [Reo] Hatate, [Yosuke] Ideguchi, and Callum [McGregor]. And we’ve got James Forrest and [Liel] Abada out wide.
“I feel for him, I’m not delighted he’s leaving but I’m glad he’s going to go and play somewhere because I think he’s got to play.
“He came in with a blaze of glory, but he shouldn’t have been anywhere near the first team at that time. He just didn’t make it and sometimes you just have to go and start again and that’s what he’s doing.“

Dembele was barely used by Postecoglou last season.
He made just two appearances for Celtic’s first team across all competitions.
