Expert: Tottenham facing 'huge blow' pre-Arsenal after confirmed Hugo Lloris news

It would be a “huge blow” for Tottenham if Hugo Lloris misses next weekend’s game against Arsenal through injury.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

The French national side announced on Monday (19 September) that Lloris, 35, has withdrawn from their most recent squad due to a thigh injury.

Lloris has played every minute of Spurs’ 2022-23 season and are next in action away to Arsenal on 1 October.

Wenham can’t overstate how much a miss Lloris would be for Spurs.

“This is the issue. It’s all well and good me tweeting and talking about homegrown players and ticking boxes,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Then the reality comes that if Lloris is out for an extended period of time I suddenly feel a whole load of anxiety and pressure.

“That’s just how highly I rate Lloris. I put him in the world-class category. It’s hard to compare goalkeepers with strikers and the like.

“But I always say we have four world-class players and he is one of the four along with Sonny, Kane and Romero.

“It would be a huge blow to lose Lloris for that game. He is our captain and he has also never won at The Emirates.

“The one time we won there recently was with Paulo Gazzaniga in goal in the Carabao Cup. I would love, if we were to do anything against Arsenal, for Lloris to be a part of that.

“There is no getting away from it being a huge blow.”
