Expert: Tottenham handed major blow ahead of Arsenal showdown

Arsenal may have an early advantage over Tottenham ahead of next weekend’s North London derby.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

The majority of Tottenham’s squad, including star men Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, are currently on international duty ahead of next Saturday’s (1 October) clash at The Emirates.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s star Brazilians, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, have been left out of Tite’s squad.

Ben White was also dropped from the England squad in favour of Tottenham defender Eric Dier.

Wenham claims Arsenal may have a slight advantage over Spurs as their squad will have played fewer minutes during the break.

“I was thinking about this, we have so many internationals compared to Arsenal,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“All of their Brazilians were overlooked. We are going to have far more minutes played when we meet in that first game after the international break.

“From Spurs it will only be, Lloris and Davies are injured, Lucas and Lenglet haven’t been called up, I’m really struggling after that.

“After Tanganga and Forster, that’s it. Literally everyone else has been called up to their international squads and they have been out there for a while.

“Sanchez went to Columbia straight after the Leicester game. We have such an international squad and even from our academy.

“We are going to be in an interesting position when we play that Arsenal game.”

Tottenham beat Arsenal 3-0 in the most recent meeting between the rivals in May.

Both sides go into next week’s game with unbeaten records in the Premier League this season.
