Expert: Tottenham hit by 'massive' blow as fall-out spills over

Tottenham have been “massively affected” by the cancellation of last weekend’s north London Derby.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Arsenal had their request for postponement granted by the Premier League after the club cited a lack of players due to injury, suspension, Covid and players being away at AFCON.

In response, Tottenham released a scathing statement in which they claimed to be “extremely surprised” by the decision.

The club called for “clarity and consistency” as they accused the Premier League of misapplying their Covid rules.

Wenham is glad the club spoke out after Arsenal caused the club to lose out on a financial boost.

“The frustration was obvious from the statement,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We have been massively affected by all of this and the statement made that clear.

“We were all looking forward to the North London Derby and the club have missed out on a financial boost here.

“It’s our biggest-earning game of the season if you look at the food, drink and merchandise that will be bought.

“The tickets had obviously sold out so for it to be cancelled one day before the game wastes a whole load of stuff.

“What will rule-breaking Arsenal lose from this? Nothing. It will benefit them because their players get a rest before a big game against Liverpool in the week.

“The Premier League should have said no. Like they did with Palace against us earlier in the season.

“I was pleased to see the statement, I hope the message was heard loud and clear.”

In other news, Tottenham have been tipped to complete four new signings this month after a transfer update from Alasdair Gold.
