Expert verdict on Ange Postecoglou quitting Celtic for Leeds United after update from Australia – ‘I’ve spoken to him’

Frank McAvennie has insisted Ange Postecoglou will leave Celtic.

But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops defender said it will be a few years before Postecoglou quits.

The 57-year-old took over at Parkhead in June 2021 from predecessor Neil Lennon during a difficult spell for the Glasgow giants.

After yesterday’s 2-1 victory over Rangers in the Viaplay Cup final (26 February), the Australian has won three trophies since his arrival 18 months ago.

Recently, Postecoglou had been heavily linked with the vacant Leeds United job before they appointed Javi Garcia on an initial deal until the end of the season.

But, sources in Australia have claimed that the Celtic boss will quit at the end of the season for Leeds if they avoid relegation.

Speaking on his radio show The Run Home (20 February), Andy Maher claimed Postecoglou will be leaving the Hoops at the end of the season and will be taking “one of two positions” but the Leeds job is most likely.

But McAvennie said it will be a few years before he leaves the Glasgow giants.

I think he has got principles and I really do think he is an honourable guy,” he told Football Insider.

Celtic

I have spoken to him a couple of times and he seems like a really nice guy, he is what he says on the tin. He has got that authority and the players will run through brick walls for him.

I think he has got a project at Celtic. I think he will be here for a couple of years. Of course he is that good he is going to move but he will not go for a couple of years.
