Expert verdict on Newcastle United signing Luke Shaw ‘on the cheap’ after source’s reveal

Alan Hutton has tipped Luke Shaw to stay at Man United despite interest from Newcastle.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Scotland defender suggested Erik ten Hag will want to keep the 27-year-old at Old Trafford despite the arrival of Tyrell Malacia.

Shaw has been in and out of the Red Devils starting XI following the arrival of Malacia from Feyenoord in the summer.

Sources have told Football Insider (7 October) that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Shaw’s situation in the north-west.

The left-back’s future is up in the air with his contract, which does have a 12-month extension clause, set to expire at the end of June 2023.

When asked by Football Insider if a move to St. James’ Park would be best for all parties, Hutton said: “I’d think they would want to keep him.

“Look, Malacia has come in and done well. He has not hit those high standards the last couple of weeks though and Shaw has done well for England.

“I do not see why you would want to let him go on the cheap. It is good to have healthy competition in the full-back positions. Ten Hag will not want to lose a player of his quality.

“I do not see him going to Newcastle. Ten Hag might have a plan up his sleeve but if not I think he could stay at United.”
