Expert verdict on Rangers agreeing Lyndon Dykes deal amid 'big' claim
Alan Hutton would be “very surprised” if Rangers pursue a move for Lyndon Dykes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender praised the “fantastic job” Dykes does for Scotland but is worried he is not enough of a goalscoring threat for the Ibrox club.
According to journalist Darren Witcoop (21 April), the 27-year-old remains a top target for the Ibrox club and Michael Beale is believed to be a “big fan” of the striker.
The Scotland international’s current contract at QPR runs until 2024 after he joined from Livingston in 2020.
The centre-forward was at QPR during Beale’s brief time in charge before he took the job in Glasgow and the manager has his eye on a potential reunion this summer.
But Hutton insisted Dykes is not the kind of striker Rangers need.

“He has done a fantastic job when he comes up for Scotland,” he told Football Insider.
“He is asked to do a particular job, hold the ball up, fight with centre-halves, I do not think you need that at Rangers.
“You need a goalscorer, someone who is going to link up play, make something happen and score 25 goals. Is he that guy? I am not sure.
“There is of course potential for him to go and do that but I would be very surprised if that happened to be honest.
“I do not think it will be the only option if that is who they are looking at. I think there will be several. But Dykes is not for me I do not think.“
Dykes has scored eight goals in 38 Championship appearances so far this season.
Last season, the striker netted eight goals in 33 Championship appearances.
