FA Cup stars Eberechi Eze and Dean Henderson react to Crystal Palace contract news

Crystal Palace duo Eberechi Eze and Dean Henderson have both reacted to a new contract announcement emerging from the club.

Oliver Glasner‘s side once again impressed this season, taking their progress to new levels under their Austrian manager.

With victory over Man City in the FA Cup final, the Eagles claimed the first piece of major silverware in the club’s history.

That should be enough to earn them European football for next season, though Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor’s involvement with Lyon means there is still uncertainty about a place in the Europa League.

In the meantime, those in charge at Selhurst Park are continuing to put plans in place for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

Remi Matthews seals new contract

Having joined the club back in the summer of 2021, Remi Matthews has only ever made a single first-team appearance for the Eagles.

The goalkeeper had been due to be out of contract with Crystal Palace at the end of this season, although that is no longer the case.

On Thursday (5 June), it was announced that the 31-year-old has signed a new two-year contract at Selhurst Park, securing his future there until the summer of 2027, something which has pleased Matthews.

Taking to Instagram to react to his new deal, the former Sunderland goalkeeper wrote: “Delighted to sign another two years at this fantastic football club, exciting times ahead for everyone involved”.

In response, his Crystal Palace teammates Henderson and Eze were quick to show their support, with the pair both liking that post.

Crystal Palace deal a sensible move

Football Insider Verdict

While he has never been a regular feature for the Eagles at first-team level, it still looks to be a sensible move for the club to make.

Matt Turner looks as though he is set to return to Nottingham Forest this summer, following his loan spell.

Glasner is therefore going to need some cover and competition between the posts for Henderson, and keeping Matthews offers some depth in that area.

As a result, even if they do not sign another ‘keeper this summer, they can be confident they do still have some back-up behind their current first choice.

From Matthews’ perspective, with the remarkable journey that Crystal Palace are on at the minute, you can’t blame him for wanting to continue to be part of that, meaning this seems to suit all parties.
