FA release official statement after Vitor Pereira was sent off during Wolves vs Brighton

Wolves are facing another battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League after making a horrific start to the new season.

The Old Gold have taken just two points from their opening seven matches, with Vitor Pereira struggling to build on an impressive finish to the 2024/25 campaign.

On Sunday, October 9, Wolves were held to a draw by Brighton after Jan Paul van Hecke’s late equaliser cancelled out Bart Verbruggen’s own goal.

Pereira received a red card during the fixture at Molineux for ‘irresponsible behaviour in the technical area’, and now the FA have responded to his actions.

FA release statement after Vitor Pereira’s red card vs Brighton

A straight red card results in a three-match ban for Pereira, which could see him miss clashes against Sunderland and Burnley in the Premier League as well as a Carabao Cup tie at home to Chelsea.

The FA have since released a statement on X, which reads: “Wolverhampton Wanderers FC’s Vitor Pereira has been charged with misconduct following their Premier League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday 5 October.”

After acting in an ‘improper manner’, the Portuguese manager has until Monday, October 13, to respond.

Wolves will be hoping that his potential ban gets overturned, but currently, it is looking increasingly unlikely, and Pereira’s assistant, Luis Miguel, will have to lead the Wanderers into battle.

How Pereira’s record compares to other Wolves managers

Pereira made an excellent start to his Wolves career, steering his side to safety after they looked certain to be relegated before Gary O’Neil was sacked in December.

However, after a winless start to the new campaign, his win percentage as boss has now dropped to 41.2% and he will be keen to improve that figure.
