Fabian Hurzeler sack news: Expert explains why Brighton manager could be dismissed after ‘horrendous’ twist

Fabian Hurzeler’s long-term future at Brighton has been speculated on for some time after their terrible recent form.

Now, former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness has exclusively told Football Insider that the 32-year-old manager could be dismissed if he is doing something poorly behind the scenes.

The Seagulls’ form has completely dropped off in recent weeks, and they are currently 14th in the Premier League table and are without a victory in the division since the start of January.

With the pressure mounting and the summer transfer window closing in, Brighton have a big decision to make in the coming months regarding Hurzeler.

Keith Wyness: Brighton will stick by Fabian Hurzeler

Brighton have not been afraid to move managers on in the past after the campaign has drawn to a close.

Two of the Seagulls’ four managers in the Premier League were dismissed after the season had concluded, despite doing relatively decent jobs.

Chris Hughton, who had guided Brighton to promotion, was given the boot despite leading them to safety in two consecutive campaigns.

In comparison, the Seagulls and De Zerbi came to a “mutual agreement” to part ways despite leading them to Europe the season prior.

Yet, despite this history, speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes that Hurzeler will remain at the Amex Stadium for next season.

He said: “I think they’ll be redoubling the reports on the sporting director side to try and get the
right players in for him in the summer.

“We all know their successful track record, but I don’t think they’re going to have that itchy trigger finger despite a very poor record in the league.

“As we know, recently, it’s been quite horrendous for Brighton, but still, I think that they knew what they were buying into when they got him.

“Either he is really doing something bad behind the scenes, in which case he may go, but I don’t think he is, and I think they’re going to stick with him, and I think he’ll still be there for next season.”

Fabian Hurzeler’s record at Brighton explained

So far, Hurzeler’s Brighton career has been solid overall.

The manager has won 41.33 per cent of his 75 matches in charge since he took over at the start of last season.

The Seagulls only narrowly missed out on European football last season, and would have been in the Europa Conference League if Crystal Palace hadn’t won the FA Cup.

Despite their recent form, European football is still plausible this campaign if a string of wins are put together, and Brighton are still in the FA Cup.

However, it remains to be seen if Hurzeler can turn their recent decline around as they look to get their season back on track.
