Former Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez believes Tottenham shot-stopper Hugo Lloris could play for the “top five European clubs”.
France international Lloris is a key member of his national side and the Spurs squad that is aiming to secure a Champions League place at the end of the season.
Furthermore, they will be hopeful of clinching the Premier League title in the near future with Chelsea looking likely to win the crown this term.
Antonio Conte’s side are ten points clear of their rivals but Spurs have managed to match the solid defensive displays that have been produced by their London counterparts.
Both have conceded a league best of 21 goals this term and former France number 1 Barthez made this bold statement about his fellow countryman.
“He could play in any of the top five European clubs,” Barthez told L’Equipe, as quoted by the London Evening Standard.
“There are so many people around these transfers. But the little delicate stage that he experienced when he arrived in England made him a better player. And he did what he had to do, he shut his mouth and he worked.
“He is good. And there is no-one else knocking at the door. Hugo is 30 and I hope he will be there for another six years. He is at the peak of his career.”
There is no doubt that Lloris’ calming influence and reliability between the sticks has played a huge part in his side forming a solid base at the back.
The Frenchman has played 25 Premier League games for his side this season, helping them secure ten clean sheets during those matches.
He last kept a clean sheet in the league during his side’s 4-0 home win against Stoke City in late February.
Nonetheless, Lloris will be looking to add to his tally of clean sheets when Mauricio Pochettino’s side take on Burnley on Saturday afternoon at Turf Moor.
