Fabio Carvalho: Big update on Liverpool star agreeing January move – sources

Liverpool want Fabio Carvalho to play regular first-team football this season and are ready to loan him out again, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders confirmed on Sunday (31 December) that the 21-year-old has been recalled to Anfield from his loan spell at RB Leipzig.

He made 15 appearances during his time with the German side, failing to score or assist.

Just three of those outings came as part of the Leipzig starting lineup.

Championship promotion challengers Leicester and Southampton have both already registered their interest in a potential move this month.

Both clubs play attractive brands of possession football and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that Liverpool feel a move to either side would suit them and the player.

It is believed the Reds are concerned Carvalho would again struggle for regular minutes if he was to join a Premier League side temporarily.

Sources say the Anfield club feel the midfielder is more likely to play every week in the second tier and would also benefit from being part of a promotion push.

Carvalho, who can play on either flank and as an attacking midfielder, joined Liverpool from Fulham in the summer of 2022.

He has made 21 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, scoring three goals.

The Portugal Under-21 international last played in the Championship for Fulham in the 2021-22 campaign, notching 11 goals and eight assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

He is under contract at Liverpool until June 2027.
