Aston Villa fans were underwhelmed following todays lacklustre performance against Millwall, but they were thankful for one man – loanee goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

On loan from Manchester United, Johnstone has impressed the powers that be at Old Trafford to the extent that the club have extended his contract through 2019, per reports from the Daily Mail.

The English shot-stopper kept Villa in the game today, making eight saves and he also earned his ninth clean sheet of the season in the process, as Villa drew 0-0 with Millwall.

Here are a few of the best Twitter reactions following the game:

The Daily Mail reports that the reason United are wanting to extend the contract of the 24-year-old is to ward off interest from Villa, who are keen to finalise a permanent deal.

Johnstone, who has spent most of his career on loan at various clubs, has represented England at all levels from Under 16’s to Under-20’s and is certainly a promising talent.
