Fans rage at Man United VAR controversy during Bournemouth draw – ‘Corrupt’
Fans on social media were left outraged after VAR decided to overturn a late penalty decision for Bournemouth during their 2-2 draw against Man United.
Bournemouth led twice against United at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening (13 April) but ended up sharing the points in a hard-fought clash.
Dominic Solanke opened the scoring after a mistake by young defender Willy Kambwala and Bruno Fernandes drew United level with a thumping short-range finish.
Justin Kluivert caught out Andre Onana at his near post to restore Bournemouth’s lead, only for Fernandes to drag United back level from the penalty spot in the second half.
After conceding late goals against Chelsea, Brentford and Liverpool in recent weeks, it looked as though United were going to repeat the trend again when referee Tony Harrington awarded the hosts a penalty in stoppage time for a foul on Ryan Christie.
However, the decision was overturned by VAR after the foul by Kambwala was deemed to be inches outside of the penalty area.
Fans on social media were outraged by the decision, with some supporters suggesting it was “corrupt”.
