Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to express their excitement after former striker Jan Aage Fjortoft reported on Twitter that the club are being strongly linked to signing Timo Werner this summer.

Fjortoft, who covers football for Norwegian and German television, claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Reds’ pursuit of the RB Leipzig striker is “hot in Germany right now”.

This prompted excitement from Liverpool fans on social media, with some claim that manager Jurgen Klopp is building a “brilliant” and “unbelievable” squad.

Others wondered how Werner would fit into the team, which is spearhead by Brazilian Robert Firmino.

Werner, 22, has scored 18 goals in 37 matches for Leipzig this season and is a teammate of midfielder Naby Keita, who will join up with the Merseysiders in the summer after a deal was agreed last August.

The forward is an 11-times Germany international and has struck 39 times in 69 Leipzig games since joining from Stuttgart in the summer of 2016.
