Leeds United are in “ongoing” talks with Pablo Hernandez over a new contract – and fans of the club are keen for the club to wrap up the deal immediately.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom gave an update at his Wednesday media briefing on discussions with the Spain international, 32, about extending his current agreement, which expires in the summer.

Heckingbottom said, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post, that discussions with Hernandez are continuing but the club hierarchy are awaiting a “definitive answer”.

Supporters on social media are sweating over the future of one of the club’s most popular players in recent years.

Hernandez has made a huge impact at Elland Road, scoring seven goals and supplying nine assists from 36 matches in all competitions in the current campaign.

The Spain international has spoken of his desire to remain at Leeds for a third season and this is a stance echoed by fans, with one claiming that United cannot afford to let him go.
