Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Sturridge injury update

By Emma Sanders

Liverpool fans reacted with frustration on Twitter after Jurgen Klopp revealed Daniel Sturridge is set to return to training on Friday but still has no idea when he will be back in action.

The manager did not state when he expected Sturridge to return fully, though it is unlikely he will feature against West Ham on Sunday.

The 27 year-old is only returning to light training at the end of the week and will not join up with the rest of the squad until a later stage in his recovery.

Klopp was quoted by Liverpool’s official website on Friday afternoon saying he would return to training and that it was a major boost for the side.

“He will go out today on the pitch,” Klopp said. “But that means starting the football work not with the team but only the rehab coach. I have no idea when he is back.

“That’s the life of football, you cannot force things, never.”

Sturridge picked up a calf injury in the Reds 0-0 draw against Southampton and has missed their last three matches, including the shocking 4-3 defeat against Bournemouth last Sunday.

He is just one of several Liverpool stars who have faced spells on the sidelines this season and Klopp is already without Philippe Coutinho and Danny Ings with long-term injuries.

Since making the permanent switch from Chelsea in January 2013 Sturridge has had a terrific Liverpool career but it has been littered with a number of injuries.

The striker has made just five league starts this season though and is yet to score in the Premier League, often being preffered to in attack by Roberto Firmino.
