Fans rip into Dominic Solanke after bizarre Bournemouth incident

Fans were quick to mock Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke after he suffered an unfortunate slip while taking a penalty in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon.

The Cherries rescued a late draw at the Vitality Stadium against a Sheffield United side who had not scored a goal in their past three league games.

Andoni Iraola’s side started brightly and dominated possession throughout the match, but the visitors took a two goal lead before late goals from Dango Ouattara and Enes Unal salvaged a point.

Solanke was a doubt for the match due to injury but he returned to full fitness just in time to lead the line.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form this season, scoring 14 Premier League goals in 26 appearances – only Mohamed Salah, Ollie Watkins and Erling Haaland have scored more in 2023-24.

He had a golden opportunity to add to his goal tally and draw level with Salah in the scoring charts after he was fouled by Tom Davies and awarded a penalty.

However, Solanke slipped during his run up and sent the ball sailing well over the crossbar and into the stands.

Fans on social media were quick to react to Solanke’s slip, with many supporters finding humour in his miss.

Sheffield United have climbed off the bottom of the Premier League table thanks to their hard-earned point, while Bournemouth remain 13th.
