Fans slaughter Van de Ven after what he did in Tottenham defeat to Newcastle

Fans on social media were quick to mock Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven after he made two big errors in the space of two minutes during their 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

Newcastle dealt Spurs a huge blow to their Champions League hopes on Saturday afternoon (13 April) after an emphatic win at St James’ Park.

The match burst into life late into the first half when Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon gave the hosts a two-goal lead within 90 seconds.

Van de Ven was caught out by Isak for the opener and was sent tumbling to the ground after a desperate challenge, and he found himself on the floor again just seconds later when Gordon cut back and scored.

The Dutch defender has been a standout performer for Spurs this season and is a contender for the club’s Player of the Season award, but he had a day to forget in Tyneside.

He ended the match having only won 25 percent of his ground duels.

Fans from rival clubs pounced on the opportunity to mock the 22-year-old centre-back on social media after his “howlers” against Newcastle.

Tottenham dropped down to fifth in the Premier League table after the defeat with Aston Villa now in fourth due to their superior goal difference.

Newcastle jumped ahead of Manchester United into sixth but are still 10 points behind Villa.
