Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa gestures

Noel Whelan claims that Aberdeen will be a “fantastic” club for Leeds United striker to cut his teeth at next season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Leeds striker gave his first-hand insight into playing for the Dons after a one-year spell in Scotland.

As confirmed by Leeds on Friday afternoon, the 19-year-old has agreed terms to join the Scottish Premiership outfit until January.

Whelan believes that Scottish football will put Edmondson to the test and that he could help the Dons emerge as a “surprise package” in the Premiership.

Whelan told Football Insider: “I was lucky enough to go up there and play at Aberdeen, it’s a fantastic club. He’s got a point to prove and I think he’s the kind of player that will thrive up there in Scotland.

“That level will be fantastic for him, he’ll be coming up against Rangers and Celtic, your Hibernians and others. He’ll get a taste of different styles of football while he’s out there, to put it mildly.

“There’s different styles of play, more direct against some teams but he will find himself at a very good football club and they might be a surprise package this year, Aberdeen.”

The promising centre-forward has played just twice for the senior side at Elland Road and his last appearance came back in September 2018.

Signed from York City back in 2017, he has been prolific for the under-18s and under-23s.

In other Leeds United news, Bielsa has been tipped to move for a striker he recently watched.
