‘A fantastic player’ – Jonny Hayes delivers verdict on Rangers new boy
By Danny Wright
Jonny Hayes believes that Rangers have signed “a fantastic player” in Ryan Jack.
Both Hayes and Gers new boy Jack have sealed moves away from Aberdeen in recent weeks after playing key roles in helping Derek McInnes’ side earn a runners-up spot in the 2016/17 Scottish Premiership.
Jack, 25, is just one of eight new arrivals that have been announced by the Light Blues since last season ended as Pedro Caixinha aims to stamp his authority on his squad.
And Hayes, who was the first of Brendan Rodgers’ two summer signings, has had nothing but good words to say about his former team mate, despite the Old Firm rivarly now coming between them.
“Is there a contrast between the moves? It is hard to say. I can only really worry about myself on that score,” Hayes told the Sunday Post.
“Ryan could have been comfortable in Aberdeen, but he fancied a new challenge so he has moved himself and his family down to Glasgow and good luck to him. You have got to challenge yourself in football.
“I do think he will settle in well at Rangers, because he is a fantastic player who could settle in anywhere.”
Jack made his first appearance for the Gers as they earned a narrow 1-0 win against Luxembourg’s Progres Niederkorn in an early Europa League qualifier at Ibrox on Thursday night.
Fabio Cardoso and Dalcio also earned their full debuts while Alfredo Morelos and Daniel Candeias were introduced off the bench.
Hayes, who was the only non-Celtic player to be shortlisted for the Scottish player of the season award last term, was joined by Kundai Benyu in the Hoops’ summer recruitment drive towards the end of June.
