Noel Whelan says that Wolves could reignite their hunt for Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham this summer after turning heads at the West Midlands outfit.
The former Leeds United striker exclusively told Football Insider that he expects Wolves are going to strengthen heavily in the upcoming summer transfer window and that their previous interest in 6’2″ Abraham [Transfermarkt], as reported by the BBC back in January, could well return six months on.
The 21-year-old has had a dazzling season in the Championship, netting 25 goals to help the Villans to the play-offs, but is yet to start a game for parent club Chelsea, with three substitute appearances under his belt for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Wolves have relied heavily on Raul Jimenez in the Premier League this season and Whelan believes it could be Abraham who comes in to help share the load up front.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Wolves, Whelan said: “They’re definitely going to strengthen. They’ve been linked with Tammy Abraham, maybe that will be relighted in the summer, if Chelsea are willing to let him go that is.
“He’s been a fantastic player for Aston Villa, 25 goals in a season is always going to make people’s heads turn.”
Abraham has made 33 Premier League appearances to date, the majority of those coming in a loan spell at Swansea City, where he scored five goals.
