Fashion Sakala 'backed' to become Rangers 'legend' after update - Kenny

Fashion Sakala will become a Rangers legend if he can score the goals to take his side to the Europa League final.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider ahead of the Gers’ second leg against RB Leipzig on Thursday (5 May).

Sakala, 25, scored the leveller as Rangers drew 1-1 with Celtic on Sunday (1 May).

Alfredo Morelos is already out for the season, and, as per club media, (4 May), Giovanni van Bronckhorst has revealed Kemar Roofe is facing a race against time to be fit for Thursday’s game.

This leaves Sakala as the only out and out striker available to the Gers manager.

After failing to start in the first leg, Kenny is backing Sakala to follow up hs Old Firm goal with at least another strike against Leipzig.

“That goal will have given him all of the confidence in the world,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Especially after not starting last week, he will have felt like he proved a lot of people wrong with that.

“What a finish it was as well. If he gets one on one with the keeper tomorrow, I’m backing him to score.

“If he does that, he’s a legend. There’s no two ways about it. He knows he’s going to get this chance.

“You think, Morelos might not be there next season so he has a real chance to stake a claim as well.”

An Ibrox source told Football Insider on 7 April that Rangers are braced for offers for Morelos, 25, with one offer already in the pipeline.

The Glasgow giants are set to hold out for a £13million-plus fee despite the fact the striker will be into the final 12 months of his contract this summer.

In other news, Ibrox sources have revealed Rangers are set to land a £25mllion-plus windfall.
