Federico Chiesa reacts to Liverpool’s Luis Diaz message amid Barcelona rumours

Luis Diaz could be set to make a dramatic Liverpool exit this summer, and Federico Chiesa has reacted to the Reds’ latest social media post about the winger.

Diaz has been at Anfield since his move from Porto in January 2022, and the 28-year-old has been a vital part of the club’s success during his three and a half seasons on Merseyside.

The Colombian scored 13 goals and picked up five assists in 36 appearances, as Arne Slot’s side wrapped up the Premier League title with four games to spare.

Claims of Diaz’s potential exit have left Liverpool perplexed, but the winger does only have two years left on his current deal, and there are no plans to open contract negotiations anytime soon.

Barcelona interested in Diaz

With some confusion surrounding his future on Merseyside, Barcelona have made their interest in Diaz clear, and if the Spanish giants came in with a huge offer, it could be accepted.

In addition, a number of Saudi Arabian clubs want to acquire the Liverpool forward’s services, but it is unlikely that he would be tempted by a move to the Middle East.

In an attempt to quell the rumours, the official Liverpool Instagram account (5 June) posted a photo of Diaz with the Premier League trophy, including the caption: “He’s from Barrancas and he plays for Liverpool.”

Federico Chiesa liked the post to show his appreciation, as did Diaz himself, which should put Reds fans’ minds at ease.

Liverpool must sort contract situation

Football Insider Verdict

With his current deal not running out until the summer of 2027, it is natural to think that Liverpool have more than enough time to sort out Diaz’s future.

However, as we have seen with Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid, the big clubs are often sniffing around potential free signings more than two years in advance.

Liverpool also have Ibrahima Konate’s contract saga ongoing, and that is a more pressing issue, with the centre-back’s current deal running out in 12 months’ time.

In both cases, it seems slightly odd that the Reds are so hesitant to hand out extended contracts, especially after the Alexander-Arnold situation.

Konate and Diaz were vital cogs in Slot’s side as he won the title in his maiden Premier League season, and the Dutch manager will not want to see them depart.
