Ferguson ‘doesn’t want’ the Everton manager job and this is why – expert
Duncan Ferguson does not want to become the new Everton manager.
That’s according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider in the wake of the Scot’s appointment as caretaker manager.
Everton confirmed Duncan Ferguson will take charge of the club’s “upcoming games” on Tuesday (18 January).
This follows the sacking of Rafa Benitez after Saturday’s (17 January) loss to Norwich left the club just six points away from the relegation zone.
Despite describing him as “Mr Everton” McAvennie claims Ferguson will not want to be appointed manager on a permanent basis.
“He doesn’t want it,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“Look, he is Mr Everton, he absolutely loves that football club, everyone knows it.
“He’s been there under a few managers now and he clearly knows what he’s doing, we know he’s quality.
“Almost every manager who gets appointed gets sacked. Duncan will not want to be sacked and have to leave Everton.
“I think he will be happy to hold down the fort, even if it is until the end of the season.
“Then he will go back to his old role. I don’t think anyone will have a problem with that.
“I just don’t think he wants to risk leaving that club.”

Ferguson earned a win against Chelsea and draws against Arsenal and Man United during his four-game spell in charge in 2019.
The former striker has been part of the coaching staff under Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti.
In other news, there is a significant update on Everton potentially appointing Rooney.
